Name

"By knowing one direction, we may find any."

The name Seven Directions refers to a Native American concept. Many people think only of the four cardinal directions, yet the Cree, Cherokee, and other tribes were apt to also consider above, below, and within as three legitimate additional directions each person may consider in their walk through life. Together they compose the seven sacred directions. Because artistic endeavor has the potential to lead us to great awareness of ourselves and others, the reference to all the directions one may travel seems appropriate. In the tradition of several Native American tribes, each direction signifies an aspect of our journey that collectively represents a circle or wheel. Many cultures of the world also refer to this concept as the Circle of Life.
